Even after Bedi Twitter apology, the first “Buddha” serial with misinformation

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on October 20, 2013

Buddha_Zee_TVBuddha born in NepalCreating misinformation on Buddha birthplace from Indian side is not a new issue and Nepali side is very furious from this kind of regular drama and attempt to take an unnecessary advantage from Buddha’s Global importance. A recent Hindi language television serial, “Buddha” launched by Zee TV Network already frustrated Nepalese by Indian over interference.

In reaction Nepalese did not limit them only in social medias, but also on September 13, staged demonstrations in the streets of Kathmandu against the serial, Nepal Cable TV Association blocked the channel when the new series on the life of Buddha premiered on Sunday (Sept. 8) and which prompted the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to post hastily the next day, September 14th, on its Facebook wall, “The question of where Lord Buddha was born was settled over 2000 years ago when Emperor Ashoka installed the pillar with his inscription in Lumbini. Buddha was born in Lumbini, which is in Nepal.”  And also actor and TV presenter and commentator Kabir Bedi Twitter apology appeared, “Yes, my friends, I mis-spoke. Forgive me. Lord Buddha was certainly born in Lumbini, Nepal. My apologies to all whose feelings were hurt.” And this issue got space in International papers like Huffington Post and Washington Post as well.

Lumbini-Kapilvastu Day Movement wrote letter to Chairman of Cabinet of Nepal Khil Raj Regmi, however; some Movement activists informed that when they had gone through the serials on line specially the first serial was very embarrassing because of not corrected misinformation. This clearly shows that Movement guess and writing letter to Chairman of Cabinet of Nepal were correct. And wrote another letter to him as our guess was correct and the scenario is changed now.  Read the rest of this entry »

Facebook Upshot: Another Misinformation by India

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on November 1, 2012

In an Indian International Film Festival in Florida, Tampa Bay, USA from Feb 15-17, 2013 the organizer is going to show 36 minutes video documentary about the Buddha Birth Place claiming that Buddha was born in Orrisa, India. Buddha is synonym to truthfulness. Sometimes artists, sometimes writers and even sometimes diplomats are raising unnecessary issues threatening neighbors’ sovereignty. In the 21st century we must be civilized and not like in Stone Age. We must respect others’ identity. Even to protect truthfulness we must raise our voice to stop that film show.

Facebook Upshot: Wishing to born in Lumbini

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on September 29, 2012

The weather was surprisingly wonderful today, so I went to the town centre wearing T-shirt with Buddha’s photo. Three guys came to me and hugged. After having chat for a while they expressed their wish to born in Lumbini, Nepal where Buddha was born in their next life. I said, “Tathastu (Amen)” and we hugged each other again. This time we had different feeling than before.

Facebook Upshot:

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on September 11, 2012

Facebook Upshot: Buddhism: Time to Catalyze World Peace

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on September 10, 2012

Article in Shri Lanka Guardian on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti: Kindness, compassion and empathy are the synonyms of Buddhism. The eyes of Buddha are the insignia of love. Lumbini is the place where mind and heart take pleasure in for peace. This is the land when eyes are closed, heart opens. And Lumbini symbolized ultimate peace and harmony. This could be the right time to work together to declare Lumbini a World Peace City to catalyze World Peace in the present critical world situation.

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on November 6, 2011

In light of recent comments about the Buddha’s birthplace, we would like to reassure you that the Museum does not state that the Buddha was born in India. We state that the Buddha was born into a small kingdom that flourished in north-eastern India in about 500 BC. The kingdom covered a reasonably wide area in the northern plains, along with several others of the time. When the Buddha’s mother was expecting, the family decided that she should proceed north to the hills to give birth. This she did, but gave birth along the way, in Lumbini at foot of the Himalayas. The site of Lumbini is in Nepal about 20 miles from the modern border with the Republic of India. Facebook Activism Takes the Next Step in Nepal

Posted by Ram Kumar Shrestha on May 8, 2011

Kathmandu May 7, 2010:A new facebook activism took form of reality in expression of aggression against theConstitution Assembly Members here in Nepal. From the past few years the Nepalese people have been waiting for their new constitution where one after the other things have prolonged endlessly in expanding the declaration date of constitution.  People specially youths gathered here in Kathmandu Maitigahar area  and peacefully protested against the delay of declartion of constitution under the facebook project Nepal Unites, to “ Show up -Stand up-Speak up”program. People showed a huge concern over the delaying Process and its existence.

Nepal was declared Federal Democratic Republic in 2008 after out casting the long lasting Monarchy system.  From then, a unicameral body of 601 members was formed as a result of the Constituent Assembly election which was held on April 10, 2008. The Constituent Assembly was tasked with writing a new constitution, and to act as the interim legislature for a term of two years which has already expired and the constitutional assembly has further extended their declaration dates accordingly.
